The Anatomy of Typography

Typography is very essential in Graphic designing, it makes the design look complete informative. Understing typography is very important for a graphic designer.

Serif font

Serif font has brackets at the end of each character.

Bottom tails of letters are descenders.

Lines connecting to each character of the word are called baselines.

Brackets on upside of character are called ascenders.

The area between up and down baseline is called X height of a word.

The line above the ascender is called the ascent line and the line below the descender is called descent line.

Red lines in the following example show the stem of the character.
